When Should the Test Be Done?
The test can be carried out at any time.
To Perform the Test:
- Remove the test strip from the foil pouch (do not break the seal of the pouch until ready to begin).
- Using a plastic cup, obtain a urine sample from the individual being tested.
- Carefully dip the testing strip into the urine sample, ensuring that the urine does NOT exceed the MAX LINE. Allow the test to absorb the urine for about 10-15 seconds.
- After 15 seconds, remove the test from the urine and lay the strip on a clean, flat surface while the test lines develop.
- Negative results can be read as soon as they appear, but positive results must be read at least 5 minutes after removal from the urine. All results should be interpreted within 10 minutes; otherwise, a false reading may occur.
Results
To read the test results, follow these steps: When examining the test strip, a pink/red line will be visible just below the test handle. This line is the Control Line (C). The line that may or may not appear below the control line is referred to as the Test Line (T).
The Control Line (C) must be visible to confirm that the test strip has functioned properly. If no control line appears, the test strip has not worked as intended, and a retest may be necessary.
A second pink/red line below the control line, regardless of how faint, indicates a negative result. If no additional line appears below the control line, the individual has tested positive for the drug of abuse.
What to Do with the Results?
If a negative result is obtained, it indicates that the individual tested has no traces of the tested drug of abuse in their system at that time. A re-test may be considered in a month's time. If a positive result is obtained, it indicates that a drug of abuse has been detected in the urine. A follow-up test may be necessary later or at a subsequent date to confirm the result.
