Prostate Health Test
This test is designed to measure the levels of Prostate Specific Antigen (P.S.A.) in your blood. P.S.A. is a chemical that appears in higher concentrations in your bloodstream when the prostate gland is enlarged or cancerous.
Importance of Testing the Prostate
As men age, the prostate gland can become a serious health concern. Besides prostate cancer, several other prostate disorders can be detected early, increasing the chance of successful treatment. For men between 45 and 70 years old, periodic prostate testing is highly beneficial. The prostate gland affects a man’s ability to urinate and can also impact his sexual activity.
How Does This Test Work?
The test measures the level of PSA in a blood sample. Elevated levels (greater than 4ng/ml) may indicate a potential prostate issue. The test has a cut-off level of 3ng/ml. It's simple to perform by obtaining a pin-prick blood sample with the provided fingertip lancet, adding it to the test cassette, and then adding a drop of the buffer solution. Results are visible after 5 minutes.
